Under Construction - Arena Footing
February 3, 2010 REACH has recently engaged the services of Bob Kiser from Kiser Arena Specialists. Bob Kiser is one of the world’s leading experts in arena consulting. His work includes arena footing for the World Equestrian Games, FEI World Cup, AQHA and many others. After an initial meeting with Bob Kiser we believe that we will have to add more material to our arena footing. Mr. Kiser has been tentatively scheduled to come to REACH in the beginning of April. This date is dependent on weather, as the materials needed are under a layer of snow and frost. In the meantime, we will be comparing samples between our arena and those provided to us by Mr. Kiser. Upon finalization of the footing it is our intention to contact various user groups to visit REACH and perform on the new footing. More updates will be posted as they become available. Thank you for your patience during this time. Update - January 11, 2010 Over the past few months REACH has been working towards an arena footing that will suit the many different disciplines that are interested and have been using our facility. During this time we have received valuable input from many of our users and we would like to thank them for their knowledge. Taking those suggestions into consideration, we researched different paths that we could take, and have already made changes to the footing. We now believe that the footing is almost complete. However, prior to making this determination we are finalizing arrangements to work with Bob Kiser from Kiser Arena Specialists. It is our intent to bring him to REACH and work with us on preparing and maintaining our footing for all the various disciplines that will be using our facility. Through these next steps, we will continue to keep you informed. Thank you all again for your continued support of our facilities. Update - December 15, 2009 The final stage of our arena footing changes should be completed by the middle of January. At this time we are working on the moisture control component of the footing. Once this is completed, we will be in contact with our user groups to test the footing. Update - November 16, 2009 Adjustments have been made to the arena footing. The first week of November we took out a portion of the original sand footing to a depth of 2”. Once this was accomplished, we brought in new material to mix into the original cushion. However, there is still one other material we are waiting for. Once the final material arrives, we will mix it in, and schedule a date for our user groups to test the new footing. Update - October 16, 2009 Further to our update last week about the plans to continue work on the arena footing, we have now received the soils analysis and have made tentative plans to move forward with footing adjustments in a trial area of the warm up section of the arena. This work should take place in the coming week pending the availability of material and equipment. Once we have completed this work we will be in touch with some of our user groups to discuss the updated conditions and we will update this message to keep you informed. Provided that all the various components come together we expect the transition process to be complete in the next few weeks. October 11, 2009 In our continued efforts to provide a footing that will satisfy the broad-based use of our arena, we have taken product from our arena and from another well-attended site and have sent both samples for analysis. Following the receipt of the analysis it is our intention to make changes to our cushion to satisfy the majority of disciplines. We expect that the analysis reports will be ready by October 16th and based on the findings we will look to trial an updated footing in the warm up area of our arena prior to the end of the month.
Pending the results of the trial we will either adapt the footing further in the trial area or make the necessary adjustment throughout our arena. We understand just how important the footing is for the rider and their horse and appreciate your patience and input as we complete construction of our facility on the fly. We will provide further updates as necessary as we move forward. Join our mailing list to receive regular emails about what's new with REACH.
